If you have a driver's licence from nother Canadian province or territory, the
United States, Japan, Korea, Austria, Australia, Isle of Man, Germany, France, Great Britain, Belgium or Switzerland or Canadian Forces
Europe and you have been driving for less than two years in the past
three years, you can skip Level 1
(Class G1) and get a Level 2 (Class G2) licence.
Bring the following items to any DriveTest
Driver Examination Centre. The addresses of these centres are also
listed in the blue pages of your local telephone book.
-
proof of name and the date of your birth. You must be 16
years or older;
-
a piece of personal identification that has your signature. There is a
list of acceptable pieces of identification in
The Driver's Handbook;
-
an original document in English or French to prove you have a driver's
licence showing proof of driving experience from another Canadian
province or territory, the United States, Japan, Korea, Austria, Australia, Isle of Man, Germany, France, Great Britain, Belgium,
Switzerland or the Canadian Forces Europe.
All documents must be originals and they must be in English or French. If the documents
are in another language, they should be translated into English or French.
At the DriveTest Centre, you must:
-
pass a vision test
to check your eyesight;
-
pay the fee for a licence and the final road test.
Once this is done, you will get a Level 2
(Class G2) licence.
With a Level 2 (Class G2) licence, you must practise driving until you have a total of two
years driving experience. The time that you were driving before you
came to Ontario can be a part of those two years. The staff at the DriveTest
Centre will tell you how long you will need to practise driving so you have a
total of two years experience.
While driving with a Level 2 (Class G2) licence, you must follow all the laws of
Ontario's roads and the special rules of the
Level 2 (Class G2) licence. These
rules are in the Ready for the
road booklet.
Your road test must take place after you have completed your full practice period.
You must provide a car for this road test. The examiner will give you simple
directions during the test. The examiner will watch your driving to see if you
are driving safely and following the rules of the road. You may not have
an interpreter with you during the road test.
If you do not pass the road test, the staff at the DriveTest Centre will tell
you what to do next.
Once you have passed your road test, you will get a Class G Ontario driver's
licence and you will be a fully licensed Ontario driver!
