Qualifications of Interpreters and Translators

  1. Interpreters and translators used by applicants in the Northern and Southwest Regions (Table 1) must be one or more of the following:

  • Be employed, or have been employed, in interpreter services
  • Be a member, or have been a member, of a professional association that provides interpreter services, or
  • Be an experienced interpreter who is a member of the clergy.

  1. For Central/GTA and Eastern Regions (Table 2), interpreters and translators must be a member (certified or associate/candidate) of a provincial association that provides accreditation or certification (e.g. ATIO - Association of Translators and Interpreters of Ontario) or be accredited by a federal or provincial government.
